Richard Hammond has an extensive background in energy, environmental, natural resources, land use planning, and general business law and policy, with emphasis on development and implementation of new policies, programs, technologies, and technology companies. Since 2000, Hammond Law Office has counseled clients with new technologies and delivery models for more efficient electricity, transportation, data, wastewater, and waste conversion infrastructure systems.
In the past decade, Richard has been involved in various counsel and business capacities toward funding, developing, and commercializing GRIDiant Corporation's GRIDfast software technology for real-time simulation, visualization, and optimization of electric power networks, supporting improved network efficiency, reliability, and safe integration of distributed and renewable energy resources.
Richard formerly was a partner in an international corporate law firm based in San Francisco. Prior to that he served as an environmental, energy, and legislative consultant to a major gold mining company and trade association; as a Special Assistant to the Governor of California; as Undersecretary for Resources in the State of California Resources Agency; as Senior Energy Advisor in the California Governor’s Office of Planning & Research; and as Legal Counsel to the California Coastal Commission, where he led the research, development, and early applications of the Commission’s initial coastal energy facility siting plans, policies, and procedures.
